About the Farmer
In Hood River he helped manage a 40 acre organic apple & pear orchard where he learned about orcharding and farm-direct distribution. During this time he also met and fell in love with a beautiful local girl named Maggie.
Maggie and Silas then managed an organic lettuce farm on Kauaʻi where they learned about commercial scale produce production and tropical treefruit culture.
After returning to the Gorge, Silas then managed a 40 acre vineyard and winery on Underwood Mountain. Here, he helped move it in a more sustainable direction by implementing reduced cultivation to increase cover crop density and improve soil structure.
After several years of searching, Silas and Maggie finally found the ideal piece of land to realize their vision of thoughtful and natural organic farming. With a sweeping view of the Mosier Valley, it was also the perfect venue for their wedding.
In their first year here, Silas taught renewable energy technology at Columbia Gorge Community College–which was challenging and rewarding and more importantly allowed to Maggie to work full time to establish the farm.
Silas now focuses all of his attention on the farm which produces produce from April to November and, of course, eggs year round.
